Tofino Camping

Hello everyone, my girlfriend and a few of her friends have never been to Tofino, obviously all the campsites are already booked so I was thinking about setting up camp on some crown land towards Kennedy lake. Always clean up after myself and will not be having a fire during any fire ban. Looking at going near the end of August and was wondering if anyone had some locations they could recommend? Just need space for a 4runner, jeep and possibly two tents. Worse case just looking for an old logging spur. Any coordinates of tips you can give me for camping off logging roads out there is very much appreciated. Also how are the logging roads up there in regards to gates? Do a lot of access points close when the fire risk goes up? Spent most of my time on logging roads on the south island no higher than Port Alberni, not much experience with the roads up in Tofino. Thanks in advance

If you are planning on a weekend expect to find people everywhere including all of the logging road spurs. How close to Tofino do you want to be?

Yeah, planning on going up on the Wednesday before Labour day weekend, expecting it to be busy. The closer the better, but when it comes down to it, being further away isnt the end of the world. Probably only going to go into town once or twice, the other days just to the beaches

I would bring a wheel barrel, or dolly and take your camping gear to rainbow beach or the beach beside it on Kennedy lake. Its nick name was redneck beach before it was closed off a couple years ago but it's called clayoquot arm pp now. You would just have to park at the gate and bring your gear about a km.

The trees are bigger than anything you will see in tofino and the swimming and scenery is even better in my opinion.

To get there you take the west main logging road. It's on your right off the hwy about 4 minutes before the visitor centre. You follow the west main logging road for 15km, you will cross a concrete bridge, just after the bridge you will see a road going to the right. Park there and about half a km you will see the boardwalk down to rainbow beach on the right, or keep going another 200 meters to redneck beach.

You can camp a little closer to tofino at the dump but its nothing but a dirt parking lot.

I would suggest the same thing.

Thanks guys, I was thinking about Redneck beach, never been but heard about it. Wasn't sure if I had to worry about anyone breaking into my car with being a bit of a ways a way but being right by the lake will be quite nice

Just whatever you do, don't camp at the hippie commune called poolesland. It's close to tofino and cheap, but people are on every drug imaginable and stuff gets stolen all the time.

It's also a sausage fest and full of dickhead quebecers
