I would worry more about getting a flat tire. Some rental vehicles will have a spare tire but they have removed the jack and tire iron needed to change the tire. Liability reasons?
If you do go, make sure you have food and water to last you a couple weeks. Don't expect to have cell phone reception either.
Also know that insurance doesn't cover you on logging roads and it can be very difficult and expensive to get a tow on logging roads.

I found the jordan river power station by myself. Jordan river is like a 2 km strip. If you go there and can't find it, you're a moron.

Lake cow to alberni is easily done. Follow signs for nitinat, then at the fork go right towards alberni/bamfield
