2 years ago moved here from abbotsford and a year ago bought a 2015 Tacoma I just changed the tires to ko2s. I would like to know if anyone knows any trails close by in courtenay.

Hi Brian!

I joined the forum today and am looking to explore the Courtenay area beginning with Panther Lake North West of Comox Lake.

Have you ventured out in that area?

I'll get you guys started

Head up the road to Mount Washington and turn left on the trail just before the snowmobile loading area.

Enjoy

Be VERY careful going up the north side of Comox Lake. It's a long way down to the lake from the narrow high shelf part of the road if you meet a logging truck in a tight spot. Not sure the bridge is OK at the top end at Cruilkshank. Could go left to Great Lake and Port Albernie in the 90s. Big trench barrier now, I'm told.

Up the road from north end of Wolfe Lake you get between Reagan Lake on the right..[.difficult to see]...and kidney lakes on the left well into the bush. That's a nice easy daytime explore to see the beaver dam between the two Kidneys...meet the bears and I had a pair of cougar visit me at 5 am when I stayed over. Guess I didn't smell good. I only beame aware of him when he snarled to his mate. Tony
PS: Have VHF but also CB radio. Fine quality channels are so quiet these days. I often check CH-16 ssb ...No USA skip at all.

Hi Tony

Great Info! Thanks!
Not certain about exploring Van Island in the near future. Too many restrictions and uncertainties about where to go without being reported to the LAW(annoying the general public).
Will probably setup the 14' W X 16' L X 6' H wall tent west of Whitecourt, Alberta. Crown land and no parks or roads into the remote area. Quad area for the non faint of heart. Grizzly area as well but have a 20' X 20' perimeter electric fence with a remote switch. Lookup a Utube video "Grizzly, Whitecourt, Alberta". The Blacks are also in the area so always on guard.

WIll wait for the late summer to explore the area of Grave Flats AB. West of the Smallboy Cree Settle. Never camp along the rivers or their flood plains. Wildlife corridors.

Stay SAfe.
