Hi All!

My partner and I picked up our 2021 JLU about 3 weeks ago. It's a Sahara Altitude Edition with the Eco Diesel, and I am absolutely thrilled with it. It's my daily and going to be our adventure vehicle for camping, exploring, and various day trips. It's stock for the moment but we have parts on route as we speak. Small 2.5" lift, stubby bumper (it's more just a fancy winch plate), rocker guards, various cargo solutions... Anyway, we're building it fairly mild as it is my daily, but it's already so capable and we can't wait to get out more. We have an almost 5 year old who comes most often, and a Australian Shepherd as adventure buddies :)

Anyone have experience in and around the Comox Valley? We're from Courtenay and have been out a bit, but it seems like most of the routes on the map on this page are more South. We've been out exploring a bit but it's hard to know where to go, when, and where there's gates and when/if they're ever open.

Congrats on the purchase, sounds like you have good plans for it. Would be interested to hear how the diesel engine holds up over time too. I think by chance a few people are from the south island, but there's people always up for exploring.

From what I know, there is stuff in the Courtenay area especially around the backside of Comox Lake. I think there's an old scout camp there or that might be Great Central Lake - both places to explore nonethless, although I haven't been. There are some places up by Campbell River too, I think south of the big gas station. Then of course past Campbell River has lots of options. Fewer gates, less traffic. Definitely would be interested in exploring when weather gets better up there.

There is "the hump" entrance in Port Alberni (which I know isn't in the Comox Valley - but still more north) which will open you up to a ton of things. If you go a little further south you can get into the Whiskey Creek area and the Englishman River area through Nanoose.

I hope this helps in some way!

Thanks so much! I've looked at the maps so many times and have so many places we want to try to get to! Heading North once the weather gets better is definitely something we want to do too. I don't mind heading anywhere to explore :) We tried to get up past Englishman to Rowbotham but found a gate.. So many places to check out!

Thank you, I've been very happy with it so far! When I started looked and learned that the JL came in a diesel, I had to have it :D
