it will be a good time my self and 2 other trucks are comin.

some pics of the ridges in southern n western nanaimo. all of nanaimo is on these ridges. they r multiple and get bigger n longer as u go inland. the ones in extension were owned by cfb chilliwack engineering for the last century. it also where nanaimo reservist used to train. cougar bluff and wolf mt are their Currahee. man makin hikin trails. if vancouver island has an underground airport in cfb. a nuclear tune up facility in nanoose for subs. hms (her majestys service) victoria naval base in esquimalt. it is her island. her name still on the coppers doors too. its how i got interested in the land when i was young. they had big guns and we werent aloud on the land at all then. for what ever reason all the dirt roads are open. economic growth?

atop the ridges r jeep trails of differnt technical ability.  its been mostly clear-cut so not a lot of brush to scratch ur paint. there are about a dozen ridges in extension. the abyss is just one.  just east of the abyss and all along the parkway is the harewood plains. what gave them the right to build a hyway where we shouldnt even walk. the miners have a wagon trail where extension and white rapids meet. a hikin bikin trail is one 2ft path. a car trail is two parallel trails. wagon tails are a 6ft -8ft wide path. no centre hump in the trail. because of single horse carriages. when u see them thats a harewood plain and those tracks are up to 200 yrs old. one of the oldest marks white man laid on the west coast of canada. i think weyer hauser owns it now. the plains follow all along the parkway. the plains also grows some unique flowers and plants. in a land of giant trees. its hard to find sunshine. 13000 years of  naked winter sun bathers. lol  no harewood plains. :)  the ridges also give us all the water holes. nanaimo is the land of a 1000 lakes. theres atleast 6 lakes that make up whiskey lake. look closely at nanaimo they flattened a bunch but its all ridges. so are the islands. we call them cliffs on gabe and duke point.  i think we have the 8th largest estuaury in the world. carbon remover? the ridges trails are known more world wide than locally. mostly by mountain bikers n hikers. locals use it for dirt biking. army used it for all kinds of stuff and u can see there scars all over the place.  extension was the coal town of the west coast. i think thats why the base was here. protecting that coal.

maps!

welcome to playland! what im showing here is just a spit inthe bucket. each ridge gets higher so the views get more spectacular as u go up. its all clear cut so theres always a good view. the goor jeep trails are ontop the ridge. the engineering, mining, army, logging and jeepster have made extention ridge a dirt playground. let alone mother natures artistry in rock.

hey what a blast being the little pig in the middle of two big ass trucks. we did extention  n whiskey lake. behind benson to lucid lake and then into the back of boomerang lake n out at waiste lands n dumont rd.  we found snow up behind benson. i found that my tires were getting hard and slippery in the snow.  they aint snowys. almost floated away in one creek.  had water up to the hood in pinki. the big bpys barely got their tires wet.  im pulling carpet for good this time. im going rubber mats instead. no more wet carpet fogging up the window. i lost a couple plastic pieces but no dents and no damage considering i got pulled 3 times.  heres what pic we got. kent n reece both got jeeps.

im not able to make it this weekend we had to much fun last weekend and i broke a axel...... lmao . so i will post when im all fixed up so we can plan a tour'

west coast livin at its finest. sea to snow in 20 minutes.  we did the entire route, in the worst of condition dragging pinkys ass, in under 6hrs. thats chase river to whiskey n boomerang via lucid and out dumount.  we all sure had fun considering the weather. im not into snow. its a rule. if u cant see the road u should stop. they aint plowed roads. so havent been used in years. people also leave crap everywhere.  so if its likely to snow ill head to lower land to play. theres some fun in duke point. cedar has some trails. most of us shut down in the winter.  but weve had some mild winters.  maybe this is the worst of it.   mike
