I'm not sure how many BBs to use but good buy on that Jeep - I had just about convinced myself to buy it and then the ad was gone, looks like you beat me to it! That thing is pretty killer.
Very few people use CB anymore, logging trucks and most other people are on VHF now for the most part. To use proper VHF however you need to be licensed. That said, I've found the easiest method of communication on the trail is actually FRS (Family Radio Service). You can buy FRS radios without a license at pretty much any electronics store. It won't give you access to logging trucks but it will allow you to chat with other FRS/UHF users while doing group runs.
Hey welcome to the site - I assume you mean April 20? Or do you mean next year? Either way there are many options pretty much anywhere west of Duncan. There are lots of good trails and backroads that connect Duncan through Lake Cowichan all the way to Port Alberni that would be worth checking out. If you want to meet up with some locals feel free to post a trail run for the dates and locations you're planning and I'm sure there are a few of us who could show you around.
Hey welcome to the site Russell - that's a nice looking jeep you've got there! There are lots of little lakes out there to discover, some quite remote. Keep an eye out for trail runs and hopefully we'll get a chance to meet up on the trails one of these days.

Sounds good Llew, we'll see you there!
