Yea when I pulled off the highway on the way back to hillcrest that's what I was hearing. That last bomb down the powerline rd after killed it cause I barely made it home. By the time I hit my street my front wheels were both wobbling like crazy and pointing in different directions. I'm not sure if the rack itself is broken or if I just broke the mounts off the frame - either way it's hangin' loose down there! Oh well, gives me an excuse to do new rack bushings when I fix it - they were getting pretty bad.

Almost everyone I've ever talked to out on the trails use CB or FRS. VHF requires licenses and the actual units are way more expensive. Plus, there is no easy way to tune them to a channel (many have to be hardcoded to a specific frequency by a shop). I looked into it a lot when I was getting in to wheeling and decided it just wasn't worth it. Plus, you don't run in to too many logging trucks unless you're in an active logging zone, which you should try not to do when they're working. Most of the best wheeling/exploring is in the deactivated zones anyway and you have like 20 years until they re-open.

Roland popped a CV axle and then I blew my steering rack on my way home (on pavement, luckily). All in all, minor damage :) I love the breakages where you make it home before midnight! hah

Hey welcome to the Island (and vioffroad)! Unfortunately you're in the 1-1 zone which is no shooting as far as I'm aware. You'll need to go to Sooke at the very least to find somewhere decent for shooting. I don't know any specific areas down there but if you come as far as Duncan I could point you in the right direction - pretty much anywhere west of Duncan is easy pickins.
