I ran a rear Aussie in my old 4runner for a few years and loved it. They work great and mine didn't make any noise on the road.
I recently installed a front Aussie in my 3rd gen 4runner (rear elocked) and am not sure I like it as much. There's no doubt that it makes the truck significantly more capable, but it kinda sucks to drive as it's pretty much a spool 100% of the time you're in 4wd. I used to drive in 4lo pretty much all the time but I just blew a steering pump from the constant strain, so now I'm trying to use 2wd when cruising the logging roads - just wish I had the lower gearing.
Overall the rear Aussie is a great buy - maybe the best single improvement I've made to my 4runner. The front is a good buy if you're still getting stuck lots with suspension and rear locker, but maybe not so good if it's a daily. IMO the best solution would be a select able front locker - but then you're looking at big $$.
Excellent run yesterday - despite the broken axle, wheel loss, and new rear bumper modification! :)
Last call for anyone else who wants to come - heading out pretty soon.
Yea let's do it. Want to do some exploring out past cowichan lake or something? maybe head out around 10-11am?
Hey welcome to the site - Hope to see you out on the trails!
