disposing of an old vehicle in Victoria (options?)

Hey there, I'm new to all this offroad stuff. I bought a very beat up '89 Cherokee last year and gave it a little general maintenance. I got the Jeep primarily for exploring and accessing some of the harder to get to mountains on the island. (I'm into hiking, climbing and camping).

Things progressed as they will and this winter, I broke the stock bumper off of the Jeep, bent a front axel, and put a lot of dents into the poor thing.

I'm thinking that, when funds allow, it's come time to find a Cherokee that is not so long in the tooth and start building on that instead of this one with the many problems that it has. I'm thinking I'm going to pull some of the functioning parts off of it and scrap (?) the rest.

I'm wondering, what is the best way to go about getting rid of the leftover Jeep? It will still have an engine afterall. I've never disposed of an old car. Do people on this forum want any parts off it? It may or may not have wheels, so towing probably won't work. I live in Victoria city. I don't think my landlord would like a non-running vehical siting for too long in the driveway. Would a company (?) come and pick it up for free to recycle it?

There are definitely companies who will come pick up cars/trucks for scrap. I've had several hauled away from my place over the years. No wheels are no problem, they'll skid it up onto a flat bed. Just do a search on usedvictoria.com for scrap removal. Some of them will even pay you a small amount - the scrap metal is worth something (that's why they want it).

Whoa, thanks for the fast reply! Awesome, I didn't know that they would take it even w/o wheels and components. Whef. I'm probably going to start plucking things off this or next week. If anyone wants XJ stuff, let me know. Most of the parts are pretty old.

So far, my searching has come up with:

Cash for Junk Cars 2508885050
Junk Car Removal 2508885865
Scrap Chief (778) 977-1333
Real Junk Car Removal 250-361-6592
Malahat Auto Parts (778) 977-1333
Westshore Towing Ltd. (250) 474 - 1369

Thanks for the help. I *guess* it'll be easier than I thought. lol

Sounds good. Anybody want any XJ parts? I'm going to keep a fair amount of them, but I'm no hoarder.

What are the seats like. Drivers seat mainly.

Like, not the prettiest things you've ever seen. No rips. Lil' dirt. Seat belts all work. Oh wait, the lever for the fold up/down on the drivers is bust.

Mine ain't the best either. But the springs go in the seat are gone.

Could this be a rare find with a Dana44 rear axle? If so I'll take it.
I'm pretty certain that only the American version from 87-88 have the Dana44 but I know of some import heavy duty application Cherokees from 89 that also had them.
Please let me know what rear axle is in this unit, and also is it 2 door or 4 door?

Hi Beer, it's 4-door. Can you send me a link to ID the axle, maybe? No idea which Dana is there. I know some '89 are non-C clip. It's doubtful that it's the 44 IMO.

It won't be a 44 with 3.07 gearing. Thanks for the info.
