Barsby Lake

Barsby lake is a cool little lake about 25 minutes from Nanaimo. It's a pretty bumpy ride in, but most any vehicle could make it with ease. Once you're there you can camp right next to the water - we even had a float in some tubes we brought!

Where do you start for this one? Is it off the end of Nanaimo Lakes Road where it turns to gravel?

I updated the post with the route I took - looks like it's actually Nanaimo Lakes Road all the way. You can also get in from the south route, though it's gated and pretty rediculous to get past. We went out that way and in hindsight probably should have just gone back the way we came :)

Found my way in there yesterday. Not a bad trail when you just want to be reminded why you own a 4x4 but don't want to drive too far from town.

I bet it's a lot more interesting in November when all those holes are full of water!

Went out there again yesterday, totally different than in the summer. There's snow, and all the holes are full of water. I didn't quite go all the way due to time, turned back probably 500 m short. I needed to winch a bit to get turned around in the snow. Great trip.

Sounds like a good time - I haven't been 4x4ing nearly as much as I would have liked this winter.. Get any pics?

Just a few from my wife's phone, and it was a bit dim for photos.

Hello,
Is the road still open to the lake ?

Unfortunately the road is no longer open, you now have to pass through Native land to get to it and they have it gated....Are there ways around? Yup, but you'll have to do some looking around to find them.

thanks for the info! are the bypass's really gnarly and messed up, or are they stock-ish friendly?
