Nanaimo stock friendly

Just looking for some stock friendly trails that end in some good views to take the family out. Currently have a stock jimmy with basic tires (not off road tires just regular all seasons) want to bring some lunch and snacks for the little ones and just enjoy the outdoors, since they are all too young to go hunting with me.

There's a lot of great exploring in the Extension area and 90% is stock friendly.
You'll find all sorts of abandoned mines, there's a giant crack in the earth that they call the abyss, you can access Whiskey lake and it's all close to pavement if anything ever goes wrong you can walk out in a short time. There's also some great hiking in the area for you and the family "Extension ridge trail" it's all marked and not a real hard hike.

You can also go up Nanaimo lakes road towards Barsby lake, also stock friendly, there's some good exploring to do around that area as well.

If you want to go to the North end, go up Weigles Road past the motocross track, there's Amonite falls which is really cool and quite an easy hike, also some decent exploring to do in the area that a stock vehicle could partake in.

Thanks man, gave me quite a bit of info. I was looking at extension on google earth and was trying to figure out how to get up there but I've figured it out now, thank you. I was looking at Nanaimo river road too but heard there was a gate somewhere?

I lied haha, I know how to get to extension from extension road, but after that I can't figure out how to get anywhere to whisky lake or anything, all the roads out seems to end on someone's property

There's a few good access points off of Nanaimo Lakes road before it turns into South Forks.
Google Earth is your friend.

Just read the whisky lake post under mine and ya I have an idea now. Thanks for the tips. Anywhere I can have a fire? Prefer a place that already has a pit made.

Whiskey Lake has a fire pit, Barsby Lake has a fire pit....you'll find a fire pit at pretty much any lake you visit.

Well that's good info to know. Thanks for all the info, I'll have to post some pics and all that once I head out. Hoping Sunday's weather turns around.

Tried to head up to whisky lake but seemed too difficult for my stock jimmy to go in (the entrance just before the "y") can anyone point me in a much easier entrance?

I didn't make it there no, didn't try, but think I will in nicer weather when it's not so soupy? I took the truck up to Weigles and did some exploring, but the ice was fairly thick and the trails were pretty gnarly in some places so we turned around. Is there another entrance into extension? I saw there was a few spots on google earth but hard to locate them on the road while driving.

I've decided its time to upgrade my stock shit, so it's coming off and being replaced with JCRs 1ton over the knuckle setup.
Hopefully have it here this week but I doubt it.

A pathfinder on 33s should make it in there alright, no? Would love the take the kids to see some of those places.

Been living in campbell river for the past few years. New to exploring the nanaimo area trails.

Thanks
