Looking for some good offroad fun leading to possible camp spots on the South Island that I can get to in my Jeep Trailhawk!? I drove around Bamberton area yesterday looking for some spots but seems to be gates everywhere!

Hey everyone - first post, on any forum. So this is a little different. My name is Dustin my fiancé’s name is Tiffany and we have a little dog named Rebel. In August we made a big change in our life. Sold our house in Calgary and bought an overland trailer to tow behind our 4Runner. We both quit our jobs and we are now full time on the road. We have been on the island for about a month now touring all the old logging roads and checking out the rec sites. We went as far as Campbell River and have started to make our way closer to Victoria. I signed up on here in hopes we could attain some knowledge of the area that isn’t well discussed on the internet. Perhaps someone can help us find a spot that hits all the check marks. Our hope was to trade the cold and snowy winter for the rain and more consistent temperatures so we could continue to utilize all the features of our new home (basically use of the water all year). Now we realize snow and colder temps are possible anywhere we are hoping to find a spot where maybe the sun shines through a little more often. Once spring comes we plan on starting to drive east. We could go to the states, but I want to see as much of my home country before just taking the easy road and crossing the boarder

Hey welcome to the site to our new members!

Dustin & Tiffany, you sound like our dopplegangers. My gf and I recently did exactly what you're doing - sold our house, put everything we owned into storage and went full time on the road for a year or so, also living out of an overland trailer and 4Runner. Check out the build thread on my profile to see some photos of our journey. I'm not sure where you are now but if you're into it we should meet up and share some stories of life on the road and maybe find some good spots for you to set up camp for a while. I've recently moved to the Alberni Valley so I'm not quite an expert on all of the local spots yet, but my previous stomping grounds was the Cowichan Valley just a bit down Island and I know it like the back of my hand - I'd be happy to do a little day trip back down there and show you some prime off grid camping locations, or even just do some random exploring with you. Send me a pm if you're interested and welcome to vioffroad!

Thanks Admin for the addition. I just found this site and am looking forward to learning more and contributing more as well. Living in Cedar and need to find non-gated trails and roads for exploration and camping sites. Cheers

Hi everyone!

My name is James and I am a 4Runner-a-holic and complete 4x4 newb!!! I just bought my first 4x4! It's a 1997 Toyota 4Runner!!

I came across this site and seeing all the locals around, I had to join!

Right now it's hard for me to get out as I have recently found out that I have 2/4 really low cylinder compressions, but the issue is in the top end. So it shouldn't be too hard or pricey to get fixed.

Anyway, I can't wait till it's all done and I'm able to get out and join some of these awesome trips!!

Welcome James, it's a great group of people here. Nice Yota, that thing could probably go forever with the cylinder compression haha. Enjoy the new ride, lots to explore!

Hi there. New to this group but have been with 4wdbc for some years. However they are heavily on the mainland so was great to find this group. I drive a 2016 2 Dr Sahara . 3rd jeep previously a 1975 CJ5(way back) 1990 Cherokee(sure miss that one). I have explored a lot of area around CR and Comox Valley as well as some up island. Mostly do my wheeling on established roads, but occasionally some trail(most are previous decommissioned or overgrown roads) . Very rarely explore just for exploring now but find a lot of places via geocaching. As I am now retired gas funds are much lower so plan accordingly. Mostly go with my husband but open to head out on my own to some areas if another wheeler is with me. Yes I am old but not stupid or scared just cautious and careful lol Not into rock crawling as I actually don't see any advantage to that. Not into destroying my vehicle. Don't have any mods but good tires

Welcome to the forum vanislelady. What are you using for geocaching?

The idea of geocaching has always appealed to me, though I've never gone on a particular search (stumbled on a few caches randomly though). Maybe we should start a vioffroad treasure hunt contest to encourage more people to get out in the bush.

Are you referring to the BRMB map? I wasn't aware there was geocaching on there but I'll check it out. I usually use Gaia default maps myself though I believe they have a BRMB layer in there as well.
