New to the island.

Hi there,

We are new to the island and just getting into off-roading as the island seems to have no shortage of trails. We are from Scotland so use to do a lot of off-roading there. Was out above Skutz falls and found a steep rocky track under the power lines. Got about halfway up and stopped as we were not sure if the trail went up and over the hill to the other side. Were just on our own so I did not want to get stuck. Would love to go out with others if anyone in the area is looking for a pair of trail buddies. We have a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Sahara and is bright orange so not easy to miss.

Cheers,

Calum and Ash.

Hey, welcome to the site - that trail does continue up and the backside of the mountain opens up to a lot more. Check google earth and you'll see some lakes up there, and also some nice rock bluffs a bit further up the power lines with some great views. Definitely a good spot to explore!

Hey,

Thanks for that. Might take a run up and over the hill some time this week now i know it's not too difficult . I see on the forum that there are some routes around Hill 60 so will do some exploring up there over the next couple of weeks. Might see you on the hill some time,

Thanks,

Calum

Hey,

Did you go up and over the hill under the wires as it looks like a great route?

I didn't sadly, as it was starting to get dark when we got up there.

Hey,

Jumped into the unknown today and headed up Hill 60 from near Skutz Falls. Amazing run up and spectacular views. We tried to drive round in a circle and come back a different way but the road got narrower and narrower and i wasn't brave enough to keep on going but had a ball.

I wondered about that Orange Jeep . When it was for sale you could see it from a long way. If you ever got lost and aircraft will easily spot you

I know, it does stick out a bit. I was always loosing my old car in car parks but i have never lost the jeep. Keep an eye out for me in the hills above Lake Cowichan.
