Hummina...the trail...

Me and a buddy have recently open a new wheelable trail in Lake Cowichan area... we are both locked up Cherokee's, with winches....took lots of chainsaw action and winching, but now its good to go....a winch is a must, as some of the creek crossing are tough...steep, loose...fun...I think its about 8km....some old fsr logged in the seventies, some trail. start in one valley, go over a ridge and come out in another valley...

I have done body damage everytime...trying to keep trail narrow....just the way I like it

Nice job Plywoodtop (and friend) I really need to get out to the Cowichan area and do some wheeling...never wheeled in that area.

There's a ton to explore out that way especially as you get farther out towards Nitnat, I've been exploring out there for years and still haven't been everywhere. I even like to take the scenic old Valley Link Highway to Port Alberni from Lake Cow used to go all the way past Comox Lake until they gated it a few years back halfway between Port and Comox.

I've fished the Nitinat a bunch of times so I've been into the area, just nothing I would consider off road...bumpy road maybe...but not off road.

Yeah it has great fishing, have you shot the Nitnat gap to the Ocean soo much fun. Lot's of the little spurs go for miles and some are deactivated roads which are some of the funniest roads/trails to run.

No we haven't shot any gaps, usually we go in and find a spot just north of the Fish and Game. Problem is it's getting so populated with people who don't respect the fishery so I didn't go at all last year, pisses me off when I see people doing things totally against the rules.

Last time we went up I almost got into a fist fight with a young man who was in there with a trout rod spooled with 25lb test line, he had 3 treble hooks attached and was just raking the river. Not only were all of his catches illegally hooked, but him and his friends walked off the river with more than their legal retention quota.
1 fishing rod, 3 people and 6 fish walked outa the bush. I can only hope that there was a conservation officer in the area when they left, I know there was when we left a couple hours later because we were checked.

What set me off was being asked by one of the young guys if they could keep a fish that I was putting back into the river (illegally hooked)

I think it may be time to go back now.....at least to explore some off-roading trails.
