Info/Advice on Inspections and ICBC

Hi All,

New to site and relativity new to the island. Hoping to get my rig out here and legal soon. I am not 100% sure it is worth the effort though as she is a little rough around the edges and i have heard horror stories about the out of province inspections and dealing with ICBC on stuff like this.

Any way i was wondering if anyone has any info or advice to share? If so please reply or PM me.

Thanks!

There are a handful of inspectors on this site I believe, unless you are going to a stealership most guys are pretty good about it.

Once inspection is complete, insurance will not hassle you. I've had 2 done and was only ever asked to provide a decal number.

Most guys will look at the steering, the lights, and the brakes and that's it. along with those items make sure there no tire poke, and you have mudflaps.

There are inspectors on this site. One at least. There is also a little known new loophole that I used when I brought my van over from Alberta. Where are you moving from? I'm in Nanaimo but I'll help however I can.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the quick replied and good info. I definitely have a bit of work but doesn't sound like anything major. I was a bit worried being an odd right hand drive import but I see a lot out here.

I am also moving from Alberta. I like loopholes! Lol

BC and Alberta recently signed an agreement where if a vehicle has been inspected in one province within a certain amount of time (can't remember the time 30-90 days) the other province will recognize it as being valid and thus not requiring a re-inspection. What I did was get an insurance inspection form that had the government of Alberta header and took that into ICBC saying the form is an official government of Alberta form and viola out of province inspection done. I'm sure it helped that the regulation was new and the agent probably wasn't that familiar with it but I'd try it again in a heartbeat.

Hi. I am an inspector and I can sum it up pretty easy. Ugly isn't illegal. It can look very rough. But as long as all the common sense items are in great shape all is good in the world. I once passed the worst looking Toyota truck and it passed, by the book, despite the holes here and there and tons of surface rust. Even the cop who wrote him a notice and order dropped by my shop to complain. All I said was " I don't tell you how to do your job, don't tell me how to do mine" I was backed up by the local CVSE inspector.
