I bought a Wrangler JK and want to hit the trails

Hello,

I bought a 2 door Wrangler JK recently and and offroad trail book but it seems that most if not all the trails have gates :(. I was wondering if there was a trail run that I could participate in or if a few people wanted to do some trails with me? I don't know where I'm going but I am open to exploring. I don't have a lot of experience 4x4ing but I did grow up near Moab Utah and know a thing or two about offroading but it's a completely different ball game here. I'm not a complete noob, I did eagle ridge in Coquitlam and that was fun but it's not on the island :(. If anyone is around Victoria and wants to hit the trails then let's organize something. I'd like to go with someone who knows some decent trails since I'm having a hard time finding them by myself even with a back road map-book. Any help or tips are appreciated.

Hey welcome to the forum! Yea it's def a different offroad style here that's for sure, but that's all good :) there's def some trail runs you'll.be able to jump on.board with, it's the easiest way to explore IMO :)

Found some trails in Shawnigan Lake which were good. Although, I did smash my front driver side fender flare and have to get that replaced and a dent in the bumper. So thankful that these accessories are plastic. I slid off a log and into a tree which caused the damage. The trails were also really narrow and the sound of things hitting the paint and car was cringy. Does anybody know of some trails that are wider? I noticed that the logging trails are wider but a lot of them seem to be gated along W Shawnigan lake road.

Welcome, all the good trails on the island are narrow.LOL we are doing a run on sat. it is definitely not stock friendly, and will be tight.
is your jeep stock right now?

Its got a 4" lift and 33" tires. It has stock Dana 30 axles front and rear. No lockers. Do you think that would be sufficient? Unfortunately, I work on Saturday but depending on when the group heads out or if you guys go out another time then I am very interested in joining!

your rear axle is a Dana 44. all jk's come that way.
you could give it a try, we usually are in some pretty tight woods or brush. sometimes 20 min of scraping along the side of the jeep. we generally dont care about our paint.
totally feel free to ask again about other times going out. always into adding new guys to the roster.

Hmm, sounds like i'm going to have to accept the tight brush and scratched paint if I want to go off roading in Victoria. Do you think there will be any trail runs happening on Sunday? This is kind of a new guy question but would it be proper to make a new thread about the possibility of a trail run on Sunday?

sure, go ahead and do that. just ask if anyone is available to show you around. im sure someone will be heading out.
there are some local face book pages that have more traffic then here that might be helpful.
west coast jeeps, bc jeep club, dirt church, etc...

If you ever want to travel up Island to Nanaimo I'm out most Sundays, not sure if I'm going out this Sunday though as it is Mothers day (I think).
Just shoot me a PM if you ever want to meet up, I like going to the tight places but know a few places you might enjoy that won't scratch the paint.

I'm not sure if you're aware of this or not but you might want to invest in some Trail Skins / Vinyl Wrap

I went with trail skinz at first, such a pain in the ass. you need to clean the jeep to put them on to go wheeling. then wash them after to put away. and so on. i just gave up on the paint. but a good vinyl wrap works wonders. have a buddy with one with the Matrix artwork on it.

I think i'll invest in a vinyl wrap at some point. Thanks for all the help guys. I look forward to meeting you out there on the trails this spring and summer!
