theres another route through carmanah, to bamfield. it meets up with the nitinat road mentioned above. I haven't made it past bugaboo main this year. gonna try again in a couple weeks. can probably manage it stock, but clearance is your friend.

Here is a link of a route, including Port Alberni.

Have not done it, but I chose the main service roads as much as possible. Attached is a screenshot just in case the link does not work, but not nearly as much detail.

Cheers.

theres the gpx file for this route.

basically gordon main, up bugaboo, to nitinat, flora main, to klanawa main, onto bamfield main. gorgeous drive. my ride is mostly stock, 2" body lift and 32s for now, and it was a breeze.

also, ignore all the little detours, that was us just checking out McClure lake and some side roads. you get the gist of it.

Was in that area this weekend. Beautiful drive, be sure to take a walk in carmanawalbran when your there. It's an amazing old growth forest.

Snow level right now starts at 600m elevation. There's still 2' at about 625 and 6' around 700m. It's a ridiculous winter this year.

Plan on doing this in middle of August. Do you think this can be done on a stock Subaru Forester? Your advice would be greatly appreciated thank you.

Absolutely. One part of bugaboo is steep then immediately flattens. U might scrape something. If not u could try going further up gordon to McClure main and crossing there.

Hey Ronin! Thanks for the gpx route.

I am planning a motorcycle trip to this area next week. I am wondering if you (or anybody else) might be able to vouch for the current viability of this route since coastal road conditions can degrade pretty fast if not maintained. Also, we will be on Adventure style bikes - do you think it's doable ( not too difficult). Thanks,

Mike

I created a geo-referenced pdf of the area including your gpx route in pink. If you have an app like Avenza PDF then you can load this PDF map into it to navigate.

I added some additional sections to create a potential 'Figure 8' loop route. Hopefully (weather permitting) I will be heading down next weekend to test this out. I got some information from some forestry personnel that know the area that that most outer portion has a couple slides blocking it now. So, I rerouted around another viable route. It's reflected on the pink route on the map.

It's easily do able on an adventure motorcycle. People drive honda civics and mini vans on these main logging roads all the time. Just a heads up that they are logging near McClure lake, on walbran main, and on bugaboo.

I drove from port alberni to the walbran valley on these roads this past Sunday.
