good & honest offroad shops in Langford, Victoria, Sydney?

Wondering who everyone brings their rigs to. As I keep adding to my 4runner, I want somewhere I can keep going to so they can get to know my rig but I also want someone who's experienced with offroad vehicles.

Who do you folks recommend? I'm in Langford but willing to travel to Victoria or Sydney.

I work on my own stuff but Westshore Spring & 4x4 would seem like the place to go?

Yeah, got some work done there recently, wasn't very happy with any part of the experience. No clue how or why they have such good reviews

Perhaps the reviews were from back when they had a shop in downtown Victoria around that Bay St. industrial area? I've only been to Island Spring and Axle when they were downtown and it was for an alignment on my lifted Jeep, but that was in 2006. The guy seemed OK. Maybe they have a new owner since then? I had e-mailed them recently about doing some work to my Jeep and never heard back. That was all I needed to know about that shop. I ended up doing the work myself, which is hard with 3 little screaming kids. I'm trying to get my Jeep ready to wheel again since a 12 year hiatus. Kids are at the age where they might find it fun. Don't ask me how I got 3 car seats in the back of Cherokee.

The problem is that many shops don't want to handle modified vehicles. Ideally what you want to find is a mechanic who works out of his garage and also has a lifted Jeep or truck. I've known a few of those in the past, but they have since moved, or I have moved. I'd be interested if anyone knows an honest home garage mechanic in the Victoria area who doesn't try to penny pinch and encourages the customer to buy their own parts. Would also be interested in a home mechanic specialising in old Mercedes diesels.

Yeah that would make sense.

Went in for a simple shock swap and lift, came out with a shock swap and lift but they threw in new mis-aligned steering for free. Went back to have them sort that out and they did...after 2 and a half hours of dicking around. Get it back, the bloody traction control light was on.

Me: why's the traction control light on?
Shop owner: oh yeah, I was wondering about that. Is that not supposed to be on?
Me: yuh, no...

And don't even get me started on the woman at the front counter. I dunno wtf her deal is.

I'd go to my best friend who's a backyard mechanic who used to own his own shop, but he's got some serious medical issues and his quality of work has just been slipping as the years go on and health deteriorates. =(

Need a new backyard mechanic, lol

Hey Jared! My wife and I moved to Victoria in 2019 so I am pretty new here and as far as my experience with a shop here in Vic is limited! I do all the my work myself and farm out what I can’t! I had really good luck and service from Vic Front End and Frame.
I did get my Out of Province , alignments ( I put a lift on my rig), and they even welded in a EimKieth rear panhard Correction bracket for a fair price. I didn’t feel like I was getting takin for a ride at all. Lol. That’s my experience.
I would go back yet again as they do have some smart people there and they understand things like uptravel/ downtravel, spring rates, Cv angles, etc... lol

Good luck!

Adrian
