Greetings! I just wanted to check in and say hello! Im in the process of getting my old 78 ford back on the road and in the bush.. I figured this would be a good place to gather some infomation. My truck is a bloody beast. Im excited bit also super overwhelmed!!! She needs lots of gear. Sugesstions welcome. I am currently looking for a reputable place to have the frame looked at to make sure its even worth dropping thousands of dollars into the truck. Then running gear, tires, suspension etc. *its running on propane so I will keep it that way and get new tanks installed. Engine work if needed or new engine. Then body work and a paint job.

I like Victoria Transmission and Auto care. They have experienced mechanics who know how to repair and rebuild rather than just swapping parts like the "technicians" at a dealership. Really a full service shop that can handle basically anything. Also great at communicating with their customers.

Finding good shops/good mechanics can be a bitter experience. I've had a few burns myself along the way and found a couple of good trusted shops.
For most of my regular service work I have a trusted local shop which I will not name. I know the manager and I know they have a good mechanic and good policies so I go there for things I can't do myself or be bothered to do for what it's worth. For all my 4x4 related needs, I've been going to Westshore Spring & 4x4 off the Island Highway in View Royal just before the casino on your way to Colwood/Sooke from Victoria. If there's something you're concerned about your truck with relation to 4 wheeling it, you can take it there knowing you'll get the straight dope on it from people who build and wheel. I'm sure other people have their favorite shops but that one's close to me and they've taken pretty good care of me so far and are reasonable.

Thanks guys. I was planning on connecting with westshore spring 4x4 at some point. In the meantime first things first is getting the frame assessed to see if its ok. Im thinking Victoria frame and suspension? Truck has been sitting for 5 plus years. Theres a fair amount of rust on there but no rot and lots of steel yet. . Everything else is crusty and needs replacing. This is where im feeling super overwhelned as I know nothing. One step at a time.

Hey welcome to the forum! Great place to be :) If your looking for a frame to be looked at / possibly repaired, I would highly highly recommend Victoria front end and frame. I have brought my truck for all sorts of things there, it is family run , owner is John and his wife sylvia takes care of paperwork and appointments and whatnot. Great people, super honest, prices are very reasonable. They will do most work you need, and specialize in frame and front end stuff! John used to be a mechanic for a racing team at western speedway back in the day, lots of cool pics in the office.

I recommended my buddy to bring his subaru there , it has been in an accident and the frame wasnt great, John and his team did a pretty killer job on it from what i hear :) Anyways yea , all I know is if your looking for an honest, friendly and good priced place, look no further haha

Hey! Thanks for the suggestion. I was actually just about to email them. Im so nervous about this process but want to get my truck back to her glory. Ive been seriously railroaded in the past by mechanics who figured they could just take advantage. Partly why I just parked the trucked in the first place. Im here becsuse I want to know who you guys trust :) I really appreciate the feedback. Thanks again!

hey no problem at all :) I agree it sucks to end up paying some shitty mechanic who just wants to take advantage. Didnt take me long to realize these guys arent like that at all haha! They even took me out in the back once while they were working on my truck to show me a couple things, and i really appreciate that

keep us posted on how it goes if you end up bringing it in :)

Hard to tell from your B&W photo, but does that truck actually have 3 different body panel colours? That’s badass. Good luck with the resurrection.
