Who do you have to know to get there?

You'd have to know someone who know's how to get up Mt. Prevost lol. I go with a guy that grew up in Duncan and knows the area pretty well, I'd be lost without him.

I go up almost every Sunday usually up the Mount Sicker side ......To get there head north on highway about 5 km passed Duncan to the Sicker RD turn off then on to turn left follow Sicker RD till you hit a T intersection turn left again you will know your going to correct way cause it will look like your going in to some one farm just keep driving ..........You can come out many different ways so pic a trail and get lost for awhile ...........If it a Sunday i am on vhf Lad 1

Just as Lauchlin says pick a trail and go. A lot of stock 4x4 go there to play and explore. There are trails for every skill level.

If you want to see something cool on this road go here N48 51.880 W123 46.882
There is a cool mine shaft there where you can walk in about 100 or more ft
On the way up Mt Sicker rd it will be on the left side right at the edge of the road. Bring a flashlight Found it while heading up to look at the old mine shaft near the top of Sicker at the Old Lenora Townsite

I can't remember the name of that shaft i have the info on it here some-were got it from mine-files ....There is another shaft about 150 above that one not as long but interesting up the road heading to the town sites there is the old dump site on same side as the shaft your talking about .....there is lots more old mines up there to see just got to look around ....The King Richard Shaft is still open or was last i checked its vertical depth not sure worth a look if your brave was told there is a mine car in it still i have never seen it ......This is the last mine i found up there
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpK2QKoq3xE i will post the gps file on it there is more just not filed them all ............There was two town sites Lenora was the lower one .Tyee was the next one up there was 3 big mine company all chasing the same seam up the hill ...My first time up there was still buildings last time logged the destroy all of it ...............

Yep that YouTube vid is the one I was referring to.

here are some other Sicker Mines and Holes some are shafts surrounded by chain link use caution and don't be heroes if you fall in you will be dead then head up the Mtn

N48 52.033 W123 47.367

N48 52.528 W123 47.332

N48 52.117 W123 47.317

N48 52.035 W123 47.212

N48 51.880 W123 46.885

these way point are accurate to within 2 metres I averaged them out onsite with my gps for about an hour

For those of you who don't know what to do with these way-point gets your self a handheld mapping GPS enter the coords in and your GPS will take you to the door of the mines.

Some of these mines are easier to get to using the back door to Mt Sicker.
West on Hwy 18 towards lake cowichan turn right on Hillcrest road turn right before you get to the Chemainus River park at the end of the road

I will have a look at your way -points on Sunday will be up there some were ....The shaft in the youtube vid is no were nears the old town its on the side of sicker face east it off Plantaion rd start on prevost MT and comes out at Sicker RD and highway 1 ........There is a Shaft on the old mt sicker road goes in about 100 feet then turns left goes another 50 or so thats the one i thought you meant

I poped your way point in to goggle i know were a few of those are but not them all great stuff i am all way supersized when some one points one out after 30 years 4x4 that hill i thought i seen them all thanks i will post picks of what i see Sunday evening

I see you marked the brick entrance i have not been able to find that in 20 years LOL i have seen it been in it i know what it was for i assumed the looging companys destroyed it when they clear cut there area about 20 years ago thanks can't wait to check that out again and i know my wife has never seen it very cool

The brick entrance is small. Its like a room for keeping something in possibly explosives.. the coords are all bang on . When Ive gone out looking for mines and limestone caves I get accurate data from right at the entrances.

It was were they stored explosives and i assumed it had been wiped out .......

the mines are from the late 1800s into the early 20th century they didnt use stell magazines like they do now. No evidence of anything exploding up there

Like the mines at Mineral Creek /port Alberni old old old

Oh they used dynamite up there but i was told that bricked up shaft was were they stored stuff that went boom ...That bricked up shaft was just on the side of old sicker rd went passed that many times till they logged it nothing has ever looked the same .......

I guess I'll have to add the LAD channels to my VHF then. I didn't think local wheelers would be using those frequencies. The BC 4x4 Association designated 146.460 as the official channel for off road use in BC. I guess in the hopes that establishing a common channel may be handy when someone is in trouble and other wheelers are in radio range. I have never heard a peep on that channel here though so I don't think it has caught on for the island yet. I scan the FRS/GMRS channels and often hear people on those. I usually make a note which channels I pick up traffic on because it seems your chances are much better of reaching someone that way in an emergency than randomly calling on every channel and hoping someone is on their set, not in CCTSS mode and willing to respond.

Ladd channel are the only thing I use. they are added security especially if you need to call for help. If at a higher elevation say on the top of the hill you are sure to reach someone and they are teh goto trucker and industry channel all over BC but also in Yukon and NWT. Alberta uses their own Alberta 1 to 4

Im leaving Tuesday morning fro Whitehorse and my Ladd will be on the whole way even in northern BC traffic flaggers use it and you can talk to then etc.

146.460 is in the Ham radio 2 meter band and lads well are just lads which technically you are supposed to have a license to uses ..........

Well, this thread has a ton of info, I found a couple of the shafts when geocaching. But I never knew there were that many! Me and my girlfriend will definitely have to make a day to explore there this summer.

Thanks all for the coordinates and info!

I never have gotten back there! It's on the list of things but keeps getting bumped down as it's more of a day trip. Maybe I'll head there sunday....

That looks cool. Reminds me of the abandoned videos that I watch in YouTube.
