cb radio antenna tuneing

I have recently purchased an swr meter thought it would be silly to use it onec and leave it on a shelf somewhere, offering free antena tunes for people who need them. Get in touch.

I've got a swr meter too, and just tried to tune a new antenna the other day. The swr readings were good, but for some reason I'm still not broadcasting clearly at all.. Next time you're heading out to tune some let me know and I'll come along and mess with mine at the same time. I feel like maybe I've just got a grounding problem though.

If I could find anywhere to buy a stupid antenna I would take you up on the offer. Any idea where I can snatch one up around here? Only ones I've found since that radio place on boys road left is canadian tire and the ones there aren't what I'm into. I want a firestik or something.

Also have a spare cb if you're looking.

I might be interested in the CB if Trackick is not.

Ended up grabbing the one from Shane, so it's all good. But I still need it tuned, so once I re-wire my cb back up (after an unfortunate on-the-trail fuse explosion) I'll probably take you up on the free tune

Everything on that website just went right over my head. Haha but now I know why I get someone else to do my tuning for me.

Alot of it is very technical, however lots of good info about your mounting locations, dos and donts, and also why you cant just slap in a cb and expect it to work perfectly without piputting the time in to install rf ground straps so you dont craete a ground loop, i read up on this stuff because I made the most rookie mistake and wired my cb through the fuse block.... Big fucking mistake! Also where I mounted my antenna is probably not so great for rf ground plane and the fact my hood isnt even bloted down only compounsds the issue and makes for and un tunable set up.

Why can you not wire it though the fuse block?? Interference?? Is it better to go straight to battery??
My CB works without the ground being attached to anything??? Why would this be??

I have just always had mine grounded like anything else, to a solid frame point with a good connection. Used to work fine back in it's heyday. I may not have been getting the best reception or signal I could have I suppose, after reading those articles, but for what I needed it seemed fine

Yah the fuse block is supplying me with some awesome interfierence from the ignition when running and i can hear the buzzer in it while the ingnition is keyed on.
Thw fact my hood isnt bolted down is a coincedence, and where I mounted my antenna iIshould ground it back to the body rather than rely on contact through the door hinges for an rf ground plain, your antenna is only half the system your tub on the vehical is te other half.
However I may be in luck that with a simple rewiring directly to the battery will provide a good clean signal with zero voltage drop under load.
