Port Hardy to Prince Rupert

Hey everyone. My wife and I are doing a trip through the mainland interior at the end of the month, starting with the ferry from Port Hardy to Prince Rupert. That’s about as much as we’ve planned so far.

What should we make sure to see in the interior? Any routes or destinations that we should put on the to-do list??

I went to haida gwaii last summer and it was magical. They are not allowing visitors at this current point in time, but I expect that to change soon.

Chytwynd and the peace river district is really pretty. As soon as you go into dawson creek or fort st john you feel like you're in Alberta though.

We had a pretty great trip, despite all the rain and mosquitoes. It was a good reminder of why we live on the island instead of the interior! We took the ferry to Prince Rupert, then drove the Cassiar Hwy up to Watson Lake, and the Alaska Hwy back down through Lillooet and Whistler to Vancouver. The 20 hour ferry ride was a bit of a nightmare. It would be much better if we had got a sleeping cabin.

We saw more bears than I can count, lots of moose, bison and foxes too. Did a bit of light offroading, but it was more of a overlanding\camping trip with lots of highway miles. I've decided to build a small teardrop trailer for trips like this. It'll make it much more comfortable to have a dry\bug-free place to hang out and cook. That'll be the next project.

I also picked up this winch from North Shore Offroad while I was driving through Prince George. $400 for a 9500lbs winch! Not bad. Thanks for the tip on that Rob.

Nice shots! What was your elevation in those first couple shots? Looks pretty high up there. Always love a good mountain view.

That place was amazing. It's about 1500m elevation. It was at the end of a forest service road by a radio tower, here's the location: https://goo.gl/maps/AaoXiwLEuznqRbQE7

Beautiful pics! You should post up your progress on the tear drop trailer. I'd be curious to see how it goes!
