Where to go?

Hey all, I need some suggestions for a good off-road/climb/decommissioned logging road close to Victoria, preferably one with good views. Peter Cheney from the Globe and Mail is coming into town next week to interview me and do a photoshoot of my Delica L300, and I'd like to take him someplace high and rough, but I don't want to drive all day getting there. Any suggestions?

Shawnigan or mill bay are about as close as you're going to find decent wheeling. To be honest though, most of the trails I know in those areas are fairly difficult and you might not make it without a lift and tires. Your best bet might be to head past Duncan and up Mt Prevost rd. You'll have to check if the gate is open, but I think it should be this time of year. It's a basic logging road but it gets a fair amount of altitude with some nice views of the valley, and there's a lot of room to explore up there.

Thanks for this. I wasn't sure if there was something along the way to Sooke; I haven't done much around her so wasn't sure but I'll check out the Mt Prevost road.

There is loads of places toward sooke, theres a load of controversy of munis and forestry corps illegally blocking roads out there and there are peopleon island 4x4 that are spearheading having these blockages taken out by the transportation ministry I think. I cant remember the rd names but have a look for yourself

Don't know if it's too far for what you have in mind but the Mount Bolduc Forest Service Road that I did a post about a couple of days ago is about 2 hours from Victoria to the start of the FSR just off the Gordon Main and then about 1/2 hour to the top of Mount Bolduc with awesome views on a clear day. and an eerie airplane crash site to boot. Would be an easy and impressive climb for your interviewer. I did it on street tires the first time, before my kids woke up and freaked out when they realized how high we were.
